| Helpful Hints |
- Maximizing Your Minutes: To maximize the use of minutes on your calling card and to receive the best rates to the countries you are traveling to, calls are best made from the United States to the countries that you have traveled to. While this card is capable of calling from London to the United States, rates are much cheaper when calling from the United States to England. Long Distance Post recommends that even if the student abroad calls their desired international location, have them call you back. It will save you money!
- LAN Lines Vs. Cell Phones: Many students who travel abroad often rent or purchase a cell phone for use in the country they are traveling to. These phones are great for making domestic calls within the country you have traveled to, however without a phone card make rates extremely expensive for international calling. To receive the best rates for international calling using Long Distance Post's Peanuts LD card, calls made from the United States to international destination are best made to a LAN line. This being true for all calling cards in general; international calls made to cell phones are billed at a higher rate. For outgoing calls made from the country in which you are traveling abroad in are also best made from a LAN line as opposed to cell phone so you don't have to pay for minutes on your cell bill and calling card rates. Also try to avoid using these cards from a pay phone because a premium is added to rates.
- Using NYC Local Access Numbers: While the use of cell phones in the United States has increased, plans have become more inclusive. As result domestic long distance has been eliminated or reduced to extremely cheap rates. To receive the lowest rates when using your calling card, use the New York City local access number. Many phone lines have unlimited domestic calling which is paid for at a flat rate. This means it does not cost anymore to call from Massachusetts to New York then it does to call the same area code in Massachusetts. As a result, using the New York City local access number costs the same as calling the local access number in your area, except rates on the New York City access number are cheaper. Any United States cell phone, which has a nation wide plan, can also be used to access this phone card and the New York City local access number at no additional charge except regular minutes on your cell phone.
- Web Triggered Call Back: If you are traveling to one of the few countries that Long Distance Post does not offer a local access number, the Peanuts LD card is still useful for making calls using web triggered call back. This feature allows you to log into your Peanuts LD account, via the Internet (account log in will be e-mailed after above from is filled in), and specify the number you would like to connect with and your phone number. After 30 seconds your phone will ring connected to the phone number you specified. This feature also allows you to set call backs for anytime in the future. Therefore if you know every Wednesday night you want to call home at 6 p.m. you can schedule a call back for this time.
- One Card For The Family: Because of the unique features Long Distance Post offers on our calling cards, there is no need to purchase multiple calling cards. One is enough for the whole family to use. Once you sign up for our free trial calling card, keep the information so you have it and pass it on to your parents. As many people as the info is passed out to can access the card. This means that on one account calls can be made to United States from countries and from the United States to countries. When the card runs out it can either automatically be recharged (option in your Peanuts LD account, must be specified by user), or you can log onto our site and recharge it your self.
